A great book that was long overdue on this American icon. The life of Betty Ford is a trip with many unexpected insights into one of America's genuine trailblazers. While Betty Ford is best known for the alcohol and substance abuse treatment center that bears her name, she was many things: a mother and devoted wife, a professional dancer at one point, a fashion model, Congressional wife, First Lady, outspoken advocate for women's issues, breast cancer survivor, and ultimately, a role model for people struggling to overcome addiction. It was fascinating to read the details of the intervention done by her family as a last resort to save her and how the Betty Ford Center came about (initially she didn't want her name on it). But what makes the book is the easy style in which the arc of Betty's eventful and significant life flows. Each page makes you want to turn to the next. Never a dull moment as you explore this American treasure!

This is a fantastic book. I forts became interested inThe Fords when was a student at Georgetown university. Betty Ford was a dynamic women. In these modern times when people are searching for truth and authenticity on both sides of the aisle, Betty serves as a true hero. Regardless of whether you believe in her conservative of liberal views(she was a paradox of views) you have to admire her honesty. Betty never told you what you "wanted to hear " . She told people what was on her mind. When she decided to come clean her about her addiction, she was direct and honest. Betty saved millions of lives with her candor and truth. The writer Lisa McCubbin takes you deep into the world and mind of Betty Ford. At times, I almost felt like a guest at their house. My assistant told me about the book and I read it on kindle. I could not put down my IPAD. I have read many articles and even a few books featuring Betty Ford. This is by far the best.

I thoroughly enjoyed this biography of an amazing woman. Betty was really just a regular girl who ended up on a path she never chose by marrying Jerry Ford, who served in the Navy, was in Congress for 25 years, and then, out of nowhere and not of their choosing, became vice-president and then president just at the time they were planning to retire. Their love for each other and the strength of their marriage is quite an example. The story of how she ended up in rehab for her drug and alcohol addiction is one many people can relate to, and her work in creating the Betty Ford Center is amazing. President Ford’s absolute support of her through everything is a true love story. I finish this book amazed at these two extraordinary people and wish we could see the likes of them in politics today.

Born and raised in Michigan like the Fords were, and going to college in Grand Rapids where they came from, I was interested in reading this biography about Betty Ford. I am thankful to her because of how she used her breast cancer (when mentioning it used to be taboo) to educate millions of women in this country. Because of knowing that about her made my own breast cancer experience easier. I also appreciate how generous she and her husband were about charities they felt close to. This author covered a lot of details about a lot of Betty's life, her husband and family. Kudos for a wonderful book!

Finished this beautiful, heartwarming, emotional biography of Betty Ford today. I laughed, I cried, and had all the feels as I experienced this book. I say “experienced” because that’s what it was, thanks to Lisa McCubbin’s ability to articulate Mrs. Ford’s lifelong grit, strength, and grace was so amazing. I often felt like I was in the stories as I read the words on the page. Highly recommend!

Loved this book so much. Betty Ford was a down to earth, intelligent and compassionate woman. I enjoyed her life story and the dignity with which she lived it. Great family!

Great story

Highly recommend this book!
