About the Author
Ronald J. Drez has a master’s degree in history from the University of New Orleans and is an assistant director and research fellow at the university’s Eisenhower Center. He worked closely with the late Stephen Ambrose to interview D-Day veterans for Ambrose’s Band of Brothers and for his own book Voices of D-Day, which as awarded the George Washington Honor Medal from Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge. He is also the author of Twenty-Five Years of War and has written and edited numerous magazine articles about World War II. As President of Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours, he regularly leads tours to Normandy and other World War II battle sites. A highly decorated marine combat veteran of the Vietnam War, Drez lives in New Orleans with his wife. He has four children and eight grandchildren.

I never realized that when my family was leaving LeHarve, France in June of 1966, we steamed right in front of the entire Normandy beachhead and didn't know it, which is funny because my dad's brother Ben was a ranger who stormed the beach at Pont du Hoc. I recently inherited the 1928A1 Thompson he carried then, in FINE condition, and will always treasure it, especially now. This book has many great pictures, especially the two-page spread showing the entire beachhead. Another GREAT Amazon find for me!!
Just returned from Normandy Cemetery and Omaha Beach. We watched Band of Brothers before doing this Adventure by Disney tour to Northern France. Disney had sent this book, and it was incredible. The residue of the harbors the allies built is still there. This is a great book and a must read for all the world. The thought of where we would be now is very frightening if not for these courageous men.
