About the Author
Karen Katz has written and illustrated more than fifty picture books and novelty books including the bestselling Where Is Baby’s Belly Button? After graduating from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, she attended the Yale Graduate School of Art and Architecture where she became interested in folk art, Indian miniatures, Shaker art, and Mexican art. This is a lovely book for baby. It's bigger in size than most of the other baby board books I own but it's not too big so that my 7 month old can still hold it on her own and chew on the corners. The prose is rhythmic and it introduces babies at a young age to numbers and counting. Babies love being read the same book over and over and there are enough pages in this book that you as the adult reading it won't get bored. It introduces you to the baby on the first page, then on each addtional page, it counts down from 10 to one, then ends on the last page. So there are at least 12 pages of story line to flip through. The illustrations are beautiful and my baby loves looking at all the colorful pictures. Well done. I hightly recommend this book and the other books by the same author "Counting Kisses" and "Mommy Hugs".
Bought this for my Husband to have a special book to read to her. Each page also has counting which is awesome! All of us love it. Lots of pages and good size.
I don't think you can put a price on the sweetness that is watching your husband read this book to your little baby. Daddy hugs is just very sweet I know that we will be using it when our babies a toddler and he's trying to grab this book, I know there will be kisses happening during the reading of this book, I am just that is good enough to make me smile. The illustrations are so beautiful the book is not so lengthy that your child will get frustrated if you read it before going to bed. I really like it, I would definitely purchase it again given the choice.
My daughter got this book for her daddy for fathers day and they read it together all the time!
Each page has a kitty on it and she loves finding the kitty. She reads it by herself too. Not really she is 1. But she will sit with the book and flip the pages. This book is read at least 3-4 times a day!!!
We read this to my baby Thaddeus in the womb. He passed away the day he was born from heart disease. But we wanted him to know that we loved him no matter what. And this book helped.
I bought this for my husband for Father's Day to read with our 20 month old. It was pretty bland and is never his first choice when it comes time to read her books. I probably should have returned it, but for $5 I didn't care enough to be bothered. It's a cute, colorful book about the types of hugs a baby may get from their father, but I find the writing overly simplistic for my child's age. If you have an older baby/toddler I would really suggest, "Because I'm Your Dad" by Ahmet Zappa for the same price. We found the book to be way more creative in writing and in the illustrations, with a cute story line.
"Daddy Hugs" is one of the only baby-toddler books I've seen out there about Dads that doesn't focus on the stereotypical "macho-man" Daddy roles (like building a tree house or going camping/fishing). This is a great book for Daddies to read to their little ones that reinforces a more modern, nurturing Daddy. In the book, Karen Katz counts 10 different ways Dads can give their babies hugs (i.e.: kissing boo-boos, burping, getting ready for bed, first steps, playing hide-and-seek, dancing on Daddy's feet, etc.) The board book format makes this a great gift to give to new Dads, to incourage the ritual of reading to baby. Great way for new Dads who may even be a bit nervous about their new role to bond with their babies and see just how special that relationship can be.
Such a cute book! I bought this book for my husband for Father's Day from our 7 1/2 month old daughter. Reading a book is part of her nighttime routine, and I love finding cute books to add to our rotation. It's not too long, so it doesn't lose her attention quite as fast as some of the other books. I love that it encourages interaction between my husband and our daughter.
