This book includes photographs and recorded text of the life of Roy Anderson, a farmer and artisan in the Appalachian region of Virginia. Mr. Anderson told his story by tape recorder over a period of several years, in his native dialect and with his perceptive insight into his world. Ms. Griliches, an artist and photographer, made several visits over this time. Her expressive black-and-white photographs provide touching windows into the setting and quiet drama of his eighty years. The tape recordings have been transcribed and also included as a CD. The resulting volume glows with the portrayal of a good, thoughtful, loving member of a sturdy community. It's a moving experience to enter into his unique and well-lived life.
